Tencent has a lot of AI office tools — and until now, they mostly lived apart. On October 29, at its Global Digital Ecosystem Summit, the company launched Buddy One, a system that finally connects them. Instead of another chatbot, Buddy One is a collaboration layer:
one AI agent, WorkBuddy, that can reach across Tencent Docs, Tencent Meeting, Tencent Drive and the ima knowledge base to get real work done.
What Buddy One actually does
The pitch is simple, and it fixes an annoyance anyone who works across apps knows well. Meeting notes live in one app, project plans in another, research in a third, files scattered across a drive. Buddy One lets you link those accounts, then ask WorkBuddy to pull it all together. Tencent's example: ask for a new plan and the agent combines last week's meeting minutes, an old proposal from Docs, and industry research from ima — and shows the source of each piece of information. Cross-app search works the same way: one question, answers drawn from every linked app, with citations.
What is included
Buddy One brings together WorkBuddy, Tencent Docs, Tencent Meeting, Tencent Cloud Drive and ima. Tencent Drive acts as the shared storage, gathering AI-generated files and long-term context for agents. Points are unified too: WorkBuddy points now work across Docs, ima and Drive. There is a Buddy One VIP plan at 700 yuan per month, which bundles the flagship WorkBuddy, the professional version of Tencent Meeting, Tencent Docs Super Member Plus, 50,000 shared points a month and 1TB of shared storage. Account linking itself is free, though Tencent notes that unbinding is not currently supported, and cross-app memory sharing has not launched yet — for now it is account linking, cross-app retrieval and shared points. WorkBuddy's PC client needs version 5.9.0 or above.
Why it matters
This is a shift in where the AI office race is being fought. The first wave was standalone chatbots bolted onto single apps. The next wave is about who can connect everything — the agent that already knows where your work lives wins, because it skips the copy-pasting. Tencent is not alone here: ByteDance and Alibaba are rolling out competing AI office products, and the same week Tencent took WorkBuddy global for enterprises, with its Hy4 model family and TokenHub model platform. WorkBuddy itself has scale behind it: Tencent says it has handled about 9 billion task requests since its March 2026 launch, with over 100 major updates and customers including more than half of China's top 500 companies.
The catch
Buddy One is, for now, a China-first story — it launched in China at the Shenzhen summit, while the global push centers on WorkBuddy for enterprises. And the honest caveat: linking apps is not the same as a true shared memory.
Tencent itself says cross-application memory sharing is still to come. The test will be whether one agent across five apps actually saves time, or just moves the mess into a single window.
The take
If you use several AI tools that never talk to each other, Buddy One is the direction to watch. The company that makes its agent the connective tissue of your workday — not just another tab — has a real shot at owning the office.
Tencent just made its move.
