Anthropic Is Watermarking Four More Claude Models — With One Catch

Image
Anthropic is expanding its invisible text watermark to four more Claude models on November 3, 2026 — Claude Mythos 5, Claude Opus 4.7, Claude Opus 4.6 and Claude Sonnet 4.6 — according to a customer email reported on November 1. The move extends a marking system already running on newer models like Claude Opus 5.5, and it is tied to the European Union's AI Act transparency deadline in December. What Is Changing on November 3 The four models join Anthropic's watermarking rollout in stages. The newer models already carry the mark; these four are older models released before August 2, 2026, which had a transition period under the EU rules. Rollout on the Claude Platform starts November 3, while Amazon Bedrock may follow a few days later, per the customer notice. How the Invisible Watermark Works Nothing visible changes. Anthropic's watermark does not add characters, a notice, or metadata you can see. Instead, it subtly changes the randomness behind the model's word choic...

Cursor vs Windsurf: Which AI Coding Assistant Is Worth Your Money in 2026

Cursor vs Windsurf AI coding assistant comparison cover

If you write code for a living, or you are learning to, you have probably heard the same two names everywhere: Cursor and Windsurf. Both are AI-first code editors, both are built on VS Code, and both now charge $20 a month for their Pro plans. So which one actually deserves your money? Here is the honest head-to-head.

The Same Idea, Done Differently

Cursor is a full code editor with AI woven through everything: the file tree, the terminal, the diff view. Its Agent mode takes a plain-English goal and writes, edits, and tests code across multiple files on its own, and it indexes your whole codebase so its answers understand your project, not just the file you have open. You can also pick your model, from Claude and GPT to Gemini and Grok.
Windsurf takes a more hands-off approach. Its Cascade agent plans a task end to end, keeps context across your whole session, and executes multi-file changes with terminal access, so you approve the plan rather than babysitting every edit. Windsurf is now part of Cognition and has been rebranded Devin Desktop, so its roadmap sits with the team behind the Devin agent. If you like delegating a whole ticket and checking the result, Windsurf's philosophy will feel natural.

What You Actually Pay

Here is the part that matters most, and the good news is the headline prices match. Both tools offer a free tier and a $20-a-month Pro plan, with a $200-a-month top tier for heavy users. Cursor also has a $60-a-month Pro+ step in between.
The billing models underneath are different, though. Cursor's Pro plan works on a monthly credit pool: picking a frontier model draws it down, while its Auto mode is effectively unlimited. That is flexible if your usage is bursty, but heavy agent weeks can eat the pool fast. Windsurf's Pro plan uses predictable daily and weekly quotas instead, and its code completions do not count against that quota. No surprise bill, but a hard cap on your peak day. Prices change often in this market, so check both official pricing pages before you pay.

The Free Tier Decides a Lot

If you are not ready to pay anything, Windsurf wins this round clearly. Its free tier gives you unlimited Tab completions, with only the Cascade agent work capped at a light quota. That is genuinely usable for real work, not just a demo.
Cursor's free Hobby tier is more limited: Tab completions and agent requests are both capped, so you will hit the ceiling sooner. It is enough to learn the editor and feel the workflow, but most daily coders will outgrow it quickly. Students and hobbyists on zero budget should start with Windsurf, and our guide to the best AI coding tools in 2026 has more free options if neither fits.

Who Should Pick Which?

Pick Cursor if you live in your editor all day, want the deepest multi-file editing, and care about choosing between frontier models for different jobs. Its Tab completion and diff experience are the most polished of the two, and it suits developers who want precision over autonomy. Our Cursor vs GitHub Copilot comparison goes deeper on Cursor's side of this race.
Pick Windsurf if you want the best free tier, predictable billing with no credit-burn anxiety, or an agent you can hand a whole task to. It is also the safer pick if you hate surprise invoices. Developers who already use Claude for coding may still prefer a chatbot-style workflow, but for an editor that does the work itself, these two are the main event.

The Short Take

For most developers, Cursor is the better daily driver and Windsurf is the better value, especially free. Start with Windsurf's free tier if money matters, try Cursor's free tier to feel its editing, and pay for the one whose billing model matches how you actually code. Either way, start on the cheapest plan and upgrade only when you keep hitting limits.
