THE DETAILS
Under the hood, Odyssey-3 is an autoregressive diffusion transformer — it continuously generates new video frames from the previous frames plus your actions, so the environment reacts to you in real time. A special training technique cuts down the compute steps needed per frame, which is what makes live generation possible.
The base model has 14 billion parameters and renders at 832 by 480 pixels; the Pro version reaches 1280 by 720. Training data mixed internet videos with event descriptions, video-game footage paired with keyboard-and-mouse inputs, and simulated physical interactions. The free public demo runs on Odyssey-3 Flash, and developers can apply for API access.
Odyssey was founded in 2023 by Oliver Cameron and Jeff Hawke, and raised $310 million in June 2026 from investors including Amazon and AMD Ventures.
WHY IT MATTERS
The headline results are about transfer. Odyssey trained a controller on roughly two hours of Grand Theft Auto V footage — and it could play the game autonomously. Then, with zero extra training, that same controller transferred its skills to Red Dead Redemption 2. In robotics, a controller trained on a few dozen hours of demonstration data operated multiple robotic arms, and Odyssey has worked with Swiss company Flexion on humanoid robot controllers plus a drone controller trained purely on simulated flight data.
World models are becoming a crowded race: Google DeepMind is pushing Genie 3, and AMD announced plans in late September to acquire Fei-Fei Li's startup World Labs for roughly $8.2 billion. The prize is big: robots that learn in simulation instead of the real world, self-driving systems that rehearse edge cases, and eventually games that generate themselves.
THE TAKE
Two honest caveats. Resolution is still modest, and the benchmark claims are company-reported with an asterisk: Odyssey-3 Pro's top score of 66.1 on Physics-IQ Verified's video-to-video physics test came from a selection method that picked one of eight generated videos in a single run — short of the benchmark's own rules. Without the selection trick it averaged 63.37 across four runs. Still, a free demo you can poke at yourself beats a press release: world models are moving from research papers to something you can play with, and Odyssey-3 is the clearest public look yet at where the field is going.
